Russian absurdist writing made flesh from the beautiful micro-fiction words of early soviet avant garde writer Daniil Kharms.

Interview with Keith Sargent

1. What motivated you to make this film?
The writings of Daniil Kharms, a Soviet absurdist who died young in an asylum.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
I've been making a longer version, on and off for a year now. This version took three days but used a lot of the better footage from the longer version.

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Dead absurd.

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Motivation and time. I want to make a longer version called fly on shit but I'll need funding for that, this film today I wrote nothing is a kind of advert/taster of the final 40 minute plus version.

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?

Really enjoyed it. The audience picked up on a lot of the smaller details and that was pleasing. Wanting to rewatch the film is the best compliment.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?

Early, probably 12. My dad had a super 8 camera and we used to have screening in front of farm family in Finland projected onto cotton bedsheets. It was magical, even without sound.

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Blade Runner

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
Just promotion really, get it in front of others, increase audience...

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Very easy, functional, smooth.

10. What is your favorite meal?
Vietnamese

11. What is next for you? A new film?

More of the same: bigger, longer, more stupid version. Actually working on artworks for installations in Berlin and Margate.

Director Biography - Keith Sargent

Keith Sargent lives and works on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent. He studied at Bath Academy of Art (1986) and at the Royal College of Art (1988). He is an artist, filmmaker, graphic designer and educator.
