Interview with Producer- Sharlène Royer
Director - Lauro Chartrand-DelValle
1. What motivated you to make this film?
Sharlène is a big ScFi fan and has studied Sumarian and Annunaki stories for many years. She is attracted to ancient civilizations and the connections they have with our current civilization.
When she shares her story with me I became very interested and intrigued, so I agreed to help her write a script based on her story.
The excitement of creating something together motivated us to pull the cast and crew together and do something fun and exciting like The Guardians.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
We won't even account for the many years of reading and research that Sharlène had already done when she finally put pen to paper to write the story. From the time we wrote the script, crewed up and cast our characters, rehearsed, scouted and prepped, shot for two days and then months of post production, it took us 10-12 months to achieve our final product.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Sharlène - Life History
Lauro - ScFi Action
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Post production was definitely the toughest for us to pull togther the right team that could do editing, sound, the vfx, pholly, credits, etc.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
Very pleasantly surprised! The fact that they wanted to see more was very encouraging!
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
Sharlène and Lauro both have over 30 years of experience in the film industry. Working as stunt performers and actors in the beginning of their careers. Through these experiences we've learned to tell stories verbally, emotionally and through action.
We've both always loved to tell stories and share our visions that will hopefully leave a mark on the audience, in the form of entertainment, information and or opening their minds and thoughts to new questions.
Sharlène's motto is « The only way to tell truth is through fiction »
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Sharlène - Constantine (Keanu Reeves)
(Mainly SciFi)
Lauro - Man on Fire (Denzel Washington)
(Action/Drama/Thriller)
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
We are very impressed by what you already offer, which is so much more than most. The distribution and attention you help bring tonthe projects is amazing. The feedback is very helpful as well.
Some sort of monetary prize towards the budget of a subsequent project for winners would be great too!
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Amazing, very simple, easy to navigate and it's a one stop shop!
10. What is your favorite meal?
Sharlène - Dark Chocolate!
Lauro - Eggplant Parmigiana!
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Sharlène - produce a sequel to The Guardians and hopefully make it into a full feature film.
Also to be able to share my future visions and helping other film makers with their visions as well.
Lauro - I am currently just starting the producing and Directing process on a new feature film, but I cannot say much about it at this time unfortunately.
