On his first day of preschool, Sun goes toe to toe with his new classmates, channeling the strength of the legendary Monkey King to earn their respect and recognition.
Director Statement
As a kid, I was obsessed with the monkey king, so much so that I would pretend to fight mystical demons constantly, much like Sun the main character. But such aspects of my heritage could be the source of friction and even alienation as these they were juxtaposed with the western culture I was surrounded by. With MeiHouWang, I wanted to share how the folklore we admire and imitate plays a large part in who we are within a playful story about letting your culture empower you despite it being the target of mockery.
