Nature, miles away from civilization, is the home of Adam Hahn, the film's protagonist. Every day he sets out on long walks into the unknown, where he gathers ingredients for his work and enjoys undisturbed silence. Adam does not seek the company of people, but his wife Magda is the exact opposite. She has never got used to the tight conditions of the isolated cottage and at every opportunity escapes to the big city called Metropolis. Can they find a compromise and save their relationship? Despite seemingly living next door to each other, they are already inwardly distant, and any further attempts at harmony between them fizzle out into pervasive loneliness. The question is whether they remain completely alone in it.
