Get to know the filmmaker:

1. What motivated you to make this film?

a. Parody. I love parody and the fact I knew a good team of martial arts producers, a family run team, I thought it was time to test the waters with this. I really wanted to do a comedy parody of the genre and a producer I know was interested in the idea of possible airing on a specific channel. So, I went for it.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?

a. It took one day to write, one day to shoot, then another one day to reshoot. Editing took about a week of concentrated effort.

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?

a. Action Fun

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?

a. Getting the right mix of location and people doing what they do best. Adding a third martial arts actor and allowing the editor to do his thing were paramount. Wilson Vang is an amazing editor and shooter. As the writer I took over the directing job, but it was really Wilson who ran the show, while showing me the respect of being the "Director," but if it wasn't for him, this would not have happened.

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?

a. Blessed, excited and above all confidence in my own ability. They pointed out they loved every little bit I specifically wrote in. Even things I wrote others said they didn't like or didn't think would work or didn't understand. The reactions were right on, and that fact proved to me I'm a damn good writer! LOL.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?

a. As a kid I always loved TV and movies and spent way too much time watching TV growing up. I was always a writer, writing jokes for family members when I was 6 or 7 years old. About 30 years ago though I became serious about a career in film/TV while working as a broadcaster in radio. My broadcast career has been successful, but I wanted more, and the progression was naturally to film. So, I started writing feature film scripts and then some television.

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?

a. Blazing Saddles, Field of Dreams, It's a Wonderful Life, High Noon, The Replacements.

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?

a. You guys are doing more than any other festival I've entered. One of our short films, "Sundown" has garnered a lot of attention and traction, but no one has provided what your festival is providing us.

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?

a. Been good. It's been the best clearing house for us.

10. What is your favorite meal?

a. I'm a foodie so that is difficult but if I was ever given a last meal, it would probably be "pizza."

11. What is next for you? A new film?

a. Based a lot on what we've seen here today, we are reaching out to see if we can get the funding for a full-blown series of "Ty Quando." I've also just written a new western script and I'm starting on the latest in my book series "Lancer; Hero of the West." So, it's a busy time but you have given us new life and hope for the next step in a career with "Ty Quando; Martial Arts Detective."
