Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
I was interested in the idea that top dancers and elite athletes can come back even stronger after having a baby. I'm thinking Alison Felix, Paula Radcliffe and in the world of dance: Ashley Bouder Also how it can actually help give a dancer a new perspective and outlook and somehow contribute to their performance.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
I had the idea during Covid lockdown when Lauren was pregnant. And baby Peggy was crawling - almost walking - during the shoot, so I'm guessing about a year.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Honest. Inspiring.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
I think finding the right music was maybe the biggest hurdle. Didy (choreographer) and I sent each other a lot of tracks, narrowing down what we wanted before I spoke to Nemanja (composer) who made such a beautiful piece.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
It was just great to hear such positive feedback. And really gratifying to see people making such smart and considered comments. I sent them to Lauren (the dancer and subject of our film) and she loved hearing them.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I was around 16, and had started watching a ton of films. 'La Grande Illusion' stands out, and 'The Godfather'.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
The Godfather
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
Feedback - whether via an in-person Q & A, or video (like yours) is, for me, the lifeblood of any festival. The more feedback opportunities the better.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
All good
10. What is your favorite meal?
Anything home-cooked (I spend too much time away)
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I'm delving into the world of Flamenco and am working on a feature based on a book that takes in that world.
