EVA is a perfect girl with an ideal life; everybody in Shanghai envies her. She goes to the best restaurants, with the best dates, sees the best movies, and is always the best dressed. At least that’s what our narrator thinks. She is so Perfect tells the story of a regular girl in Shanghai and her obsessions with Eva. Through the story, she will realize that things aren’t always what they seem.

Interview with director Olivier Hero Dressen
1. What motivated you to make this film?
First of all we wanted to say thanks again for giving us this best directing award, we really appreciate that!
Camilla Wang and I are doing a masterclass in a renowned International Fashion school in Shanghai from Milano; "Istituto Marangoni".
With our students we are doing films related to Fashion; that's where Camilla had this idea of telling that specific story from a young woman's perspective in Shanghai.
She wrote the entire story with a little twist for the ending on my side and with the help of our students we produced and put this film together.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you
to make this film?
Probably a month total, it took only one day to shoot and I was directing and doing the cinematography at the same time to move quicker on set.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Teenager fantasy.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Somehow it took us a while to put the color together, I worked first myself on it in DaVinci Resolve (We own a grading station) then I tried a few other colorists in Shanghai without success.
Finally I found another colorist that did a pass into it and sent me back the files. At the end I did a compilation of our best grades so that's why we shared a credit on that part.
Our previous film "The Passport" was graded by the same Colorist as Oscar Nominated film "Bullhead" so we didn't really suffer that same issue for the previous film and I wish this type of scenario would happen all the time.
But since our budget was quite limited on She is So Perfect we had to do it ourselves.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking
about your film in the feedback video?
It's always an immense plaisir to see and hear the audience reaction, unlike musiciens, with filmmaking we don't really have an immediate reaction for our work.
Why your festival is one of my favorites is because you give us, to Independent filmmakers, that opportunity to understand better how our work is perceived.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
Since I was a kid I have been painting, drawing comics, then later on doing exhibitions with my work, as soon as I started to do animated films I fell in love with the media, since it mixes up everything I like.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Hard to say, I watch at least a movie a day, but Back to the future, Memento, Blade Runner, are some of those I like to revisit.
I will also do a quick plug to my Pinterest page dedicated to movies I like, our page is also followed by Netflix by the way.

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other
festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking
career?
It's always great to have leads with executives and people that could eventually push our futures projects forward, not sure how that could be implemented into your festival.
But honestly, again, that's not really the purpose of why we are sending our materials to your festival.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your
experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Great, honestly close to perfect experience.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Not my perfect meal, but being away from travelling out of China since COVID.
So I do miss a good In and Out Burger in Los Angeles ;)
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I do seek management and partnership to help us move forward to directing feature films or interesting shows.
I have two close calls with big management in Los Angeles that are involved in a big international franchise, but nothing signed off yet, so I am still looking for that right partnership and hopefully fulfill soon that big dream of mine.
I really do love filmmaking and actually we created a website where we share our film related projects www.studiosupremefilms.com we still have 4 other shorts in work so probably soon close to 7 shorts on this platform.
We also have been working on producing motion graphics content for projects involving Sarah Silverman, David Letterman and other comedians, I can't really say more about it right now, but I am really looking forward to seeing that project aired sometime soon.
For the rest I am still seeking to do the feature version of The Passport , so I am looking for that perfect writer to co-write with me that project!

Director Statement
She is so Perfect is a window into some of the Shanghainese, and young Chinese’s women psyches.
The story is written by Camilla Wang, a Chinese fashion influencer. After living in China for 9 years now, I was really inspired by this story and interested to share this unique vision of young Shanghainese girls, I also added my own flair to this film by adding a small twist ending in the writing.
This film is co-produced with the Istituto Marangoni in Shanghai and a majority of the crew member was students, mostly Chinese girls, only the post-production and gaffer was Russian and French.
Our film is finally starting to hit festivals around the world, and we hope that our audience will also be inspired and equally passionate about this film. Our next challenge is to produce a feature film together as we don’t want let Bryan Boise rest for too long.
I am still currently based in Shanghai, China but now looking to relocate to Los Angeles. Recently we created Studio Supreme Films, a company only dedicated to film-making and the creation of inspiring movies.
