Get to know the filmmaker:

1. What motivated you to make this film?

The music! Marble was kind enough to let me pick which song I wanted to make a music video for and gave me complete creative freedom over the concept. I wanted to direct their self-titled song as soon as I heard it, the lyrics about a relationship turned loveless. I really enjoy writing about the big transformative times in life, and I find leaving a long term relationship to be one of the greatest examples of that.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?

The whole process took a few months, mostly due to a delay in finding the right house and car for the film. I also work full time and so most everything had to happen on my weekends. It took a few weeks of prep, two days to film, and over a month to edit.

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?

Claustrophobic, floaty

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?

Getting the locations and lighting right. I had a difficult time finding an affordable place large enough. I needed an infinite black look while still allowing the main character to walk around without catching a wall or pillar in the background. We fortunately found a space just barely big enough and worked around its shortcomings. I also hurt my leg before the final day of shooting which amounted to a very painful shoot day.

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?

Relief and pride. I really expected way more critiques and that many viewers might not like it. It was really nice listening to people I don't know or have any connection to that watched it and enjoyed it.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?

Around 12. I chipped in with two friends and purchased an old camcorder from my friend's dad for $40. That was a lot of money for us so we were pretty sure it was something we wanted to do. We made hundreds of videos with that camcorder over the next decade and I really fell in love with story telling.

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?

Gotta be a childhood film my family owned. I think we only owned 20 - 30 tapes so lots of repeats. Best guess is A Bugs Life.

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?

Love the continued promotion of films that have screened. Helps a lot for it to not be a one night party and quick move on. You guys are doing great!

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?

No complaints. Quick and easy.

10. What is your favorite meal?

I eat bowls of veggies and grains with sauce or olives or cheese or salsa or sour cream or whatever. I also eat fruit by the pound.

11. What is next for you? A new film?

Lots of collaboration and working on my friends passion projects. I have one new music video and one new short film in the works. Should both release in the spring!
