Director Statement
Lost At Sea is another ambitious project we were not sure whether we could pull it off with the limited budget available from a self producing artists point of view. In the end we found partners in crime who believed in the story and brought this incredible piece of film to light. My love goes out to everyone involved!

Get to know the filmmaker:

1. What motivated you to make this film?

I’m basically a self producing independent rock/pop artist and as such in control of the whole creative process start to finish.
First there was the song which was inspired by a friends poem. While I was working on producing song with some great musicians (e.g. drummer Jerry Marotta, who also played for Peter Gabriel, Paul McCartney and many many more) I had to listen to it over and over again while out running. Images of a drifting abandoned boat came into my head (The starting image and the ending image.) and I crafted the initial plot.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?

About four months. I went to my buddies from Artwork Pictures and we fine tuned the script I had made together. We talked through how this could be done, which reassured me that it’s doable. Even though it was practically a no budget project.

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?

That’s hard. Oh. There you go. Two words. Haha.
Ok … serious now … maybe: Wrong decisions.

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?

The biggest obstacle as an independent creator is always: Money. Can this be done without costing an arm and a leg. Can I inspire people to work on an artistic project because they feel it rather than for the pay. Fortunately I was lucky to find enthusiasts like me who also wanted to give this project their love and breathe the life into it.

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?

I had a smile all over my face. It was awesome to see how much thought these people put into their feedback. How they would look at it from different angles. How it made them feel. Really, really great!

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?

A hard question to answer, really. I think I started out pretty late with the arts. Music and films always fascinated me. I’ve been doing music on and off privately for myself since I was a kid. Really started to get on stage only at about the age of 30. And found my way into making music videos and documentaries even later.

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?

Ah, well. That must be Life Of Brian. But my alltime favorite still is and was a film by the Coen brothers which is not that well known as their big hits: The Hudsucker Proxy. One of the most underrated and greatest comedy movies ever.

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?

Bring independent films to the largest audience possible. Preferrably on the biggest screens in front of a live audience. :-)

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?

FilmFreeway makes it really easy to submit independent films to festivals around the globe. I love it.

10. What is your favorite meal?

Pizza, Burger, Chocolate. Or the other way around.

11. What is next for you? A new film?

I’m releasing my first 86 minutes documentary. It’s about a young German band who won a trip to the mighty Dreamland Recording Studios Woodstock to record with the legendary Jerry Marotta.
