Get to know filmmaker Julio Del Alamo:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
It was practically by chance... I had been researching all the new tools with AI for some time, when I discovered the credibility, detail and expression in the photographs, I began to work on the idea of making a short film with moving images. The concept of BREARTH was something that had been on my mind for a long time. The conjunction of AI and a human creative idea has resulted in this film.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
About three months.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
A criticism of humanity, for not doing what is necessary to stop the increase in plastic waste, stop climate change and make human beings reflect on the near future that awaits us.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Surely transmitting emotions to the viewer. I didn't want it to be simply a collage of photographs, I needed to bring each of them to life, through subtle animation, a constant movement of the plastic in each scene and a soundtrack that would make the viewer feel and open their eyes.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
A great satisfaction. People know how to analyze very well what is written "between the lines". In today's fast-paced world, with so much information, visual inputs, and social media, taking time to reflect is not very normal. I always say that practically everyone sees, some look and very few observe.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
J Well, I've been making movies all my life. Many years have been dedicated to being an advertising director and when my work allows me, I try to escape from clients and commercial brands to make short films, photography, painting, etc...
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Star Wars
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I think that festivals like this are already a great help to young talents. Being able to be connected to a large audiovisual community was unthinkable a few decades ago. The love, information and possibilities offered by a festival like this give encouragement, satisfaction and energy to be able to share a job with the rest of the world.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Excellent.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Anything that doesn't have plastic... ;)
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Possibly something closer to animation.
