Director Statement
The Dam explores the transition from childhood in a slightly twisted and unexpected way. Inspired by the play The Dam by Jo Tabit, the film begins in a bucolic rural setting and seems, at first, to follow the familiar trajectory of a teen romance or coming of age tale but it soon veers towards horror, surrealism and sci-fi. These genre tropes serve to highlight a moment of realization or terror at the threshold of adulthood. True horror lies in the confrontation with mortality and sexuality and the mysterious thread that links the two.
