Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
It was a short piece I wrote about 5 years ago that I never thought I would be able to make. It eventually became a feature length script, but I still held onto the original 5 page version that inspired it. I got a call to work with a film summer camp for middle and high school kids who where learning and training to be in the film industry and they were interested in the script and decided to take on the project.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
5 years from the original idea to the completed project. But from preproduction to the finished film, 2 months.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Magically Hopeful.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
The construction of the treehouse and matching it to an outside location were the biggest obstacles, but we had the best team come together to make it happen.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
I was humbled and honored. Grateful that these lovely people took the time to give their thoughts.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
There was no one moment, its been a slow build that has grown stronger and stronger over the years.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
It's probably a tie between The Wizard of Oz, 2001, the original Star Wars films, and The Great Race... And honestly all the Gene Kelly movies.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I think you guys do a fantastic job, I think the only things a filmmaker really wants from a fest is a great experience, exposure, and an attached market.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Love Film Freeway, always a smooth experience.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Too many to choose from, - I'm from New Orleans and we have some of the best food in the world. Right now I would love a giant helping of red beans and rice with some creole sauce.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Always a new film. :)
