NACRE, 4min., Italy
Directed by Erika Giulietti, Giorgia Benazzo
"Nacre" is as a visual representation inside a liminal space of the creation process of our memories, experiences, perceptions: who we are.
Get to know the filmmakers:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
Nacre was born in the university environment during the course held by Giorgia, a synergy was created between teacher and student, thanks to NID - Nuovo Istituto Design who made the production possible. The course was about the future of Fashion Film in an Experimental Way.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
It took 6 months from the writing to the final product, we started in December and concluded the production in early July.
3. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
The most difficult part was the research for a strong concept and the coherence between the concept and the visual narrative, which despite being visually abstract must communicate a message.
4. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
What we are mostly happy about is that the concept was well read and understood by the audience. Everything we produce is for the others to see it. Does a tree falling in a forest make sound if nobody is there to hear it?
5. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
During the course everyone presented an idea and this was the winning one. We understood together that this idea had potential. Thinking about the birth of the oyster, discussing it together we decided to combine an organic component and from here we found similarities and connections with neurosciences.
6. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Giorgia is a great fan of Korean cinema and movies from Lars Von Trier. Most important movie in my life (Erika), is Vanilla Sky by Cameron Crowe. We were deeply influenced by "Energie" by Thorsten Fleisch.
7. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
For our next experience at the Experimental Film Festival we would really love to personally attend the screenings to see the audience reaction in person!
8. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
We think FilmFreeway is a good platform to manage experiences with different festivals.
9. What is your favorite meal?
We are 2 different people with different food taste, but all we can now say about food is that we physically integrated molecular cuisine into the production of Nacre.
10. What is next for you? A new film?
"The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't". We are open to all the chances the future will give us.
