MAGGIE KAWAR, an art gallery owner in her fifties, struggles with the emotional scars left by her abusive mother, RUBY. She juggles being a grandmother to her six-year-old grandson, FREDDY, and her tumultuous relationship with her self-absorbed daughter, ELIZABETH, who works as her assistant. The story opens with Maggie rushing to pick up Freddy from school. Despite her best intentions, Maggie's frequent tardiness is a problem with the school director, MISS PATEL.
