Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
My Actor friend Aixa Tovar came up with the script. I took a look at it and wanted to challenge myself for the piece. Adding Suspense/Drama to the catalog was a great thing for me to experience.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
It took 3 hours of shooting so one day. Then about a week and a half from finished audio. I did the shooting/editing/color grading so it was a handful forsure.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Anxiety/Hopeful
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
The biggest obstacle was maintaining the composure from the Actors Aixa Tovar and Cat Gonzalez. Leading up to their final monologue where they're heading to the kitchen a great speech was made for the team. That fired everyone up and we got it done.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
It was different. The subject is a tough pill to swallow always so I was glad to see that they understood what we were going for and complimenting what they saw from the acting to the shots and tempo. They really narrowed down there perspective to a professional observation.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
Years ago. I started out taking pictures. Then "lightbulb moments" people were telling me my work was good. Then I gravitated to making shorts on my iPhone. Eventually upgraded to a handheld camera and just kept practicing till this day and just seeing what comes along.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
These past years I'm heavily influenced from Sean Bakers work. The Safdie Brothers and Andrea Arnold from Europe. So anything with the realism is what keeps me engaged and that's where my heads been at for a couple of years.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I think Just better communication. I liked how you guys handled it a lot. You guys let me know what was going on and kept your word so thats really cool for me. This is all a first thing for me so I'm getting adjusted to it.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
It's been good I won some awards internationally and here in Texas. So I'm at ease that my work is getting recognized. There's some rejections but thats okay art/film is always subjective.
10. What is your favorite meal?
My moms cornbread casserole. Man I miss her cooking.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I'm coming up with a 15 min short to submit to Sundance,SXSW, you all again and just want to keep challenging my full potential. I love what I do so it'll all fledge itself out in due time.
