WHERE THE ROPE ENDS, 70min., USA
Directed by Baylee Sinner
In her relentless pursuit of happiness, Nichole found herself drawn to the exhilarating realm of canyoneering. Little did she know that this new daring interest would lead to a life-altering 60-foot fall, during which she would catch a glimpse of the happiness she was chasing.

Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film? I met Nichole in a 6-month yoga teacher training program. At the time, I was destressing from my commercial advertising job and she had just got in the accident and was in a wheelchair, and looking for a way to get outside of her body and connect with others. I learned more about her story and was fascinated with her as a person. Within 10 minutes of our first conversation, we started talking about making a film.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film? 7 incredible long years.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!? I would describe the message I am hoping to share from the film as beautiful and applicable.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film? Editing was extremely challenging. I had no idea it would take so long and with this being my first feature film, there were a lot of things I would have done differently that could probably have shaved off a year or two.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video? So happy! At this point in our release, I've mostly only heard from friends and family, so to hear positive feedback and people understanding elements of the story that didn't have any prior knowledge of the film means that we are doing our job.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films? I've always been the girl with the camera in her hands or writing stories. I am grateful to have found film at a really young age and stick with it and have had opportunities that allowed me to turn it into a career.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life? Good Burger and Zoolander...ha!
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career? This has been a great experience. Every festival is different and this one feels very supportive of filmmakers.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site? Love it. Very straightforward and efficient.
10. What is your favorite meal? My mom is not the best cook...it's okay, she owns it. Even though the meals may not be the most flavorful, the experience of eating them together is always so positive and full of love. I have the best memories of her curry chicken recipe.
11. What is next for you? A new film? That's such a hard question to answer. Part of me wants to say I will never make a feature film again, but another part of me is already working on a new idea. Right now I am focused on advertising word (self-funding a documentary is not cheap), and then I don't doubt I will latch onto an idea and start something else soon. More of my work can be soon on my website, www.bayleesinner.com.
