WHAT A MATCH, 5min., Sweden
Directed by Björn Granberg Ahlmark
In the tv show, What a Match, the old man and woman, seek to find an answer to their longing and hope for deep love! The blind date takes place in front of an enthusiastic live audience in this new successful show!
Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
My previous animation, Art is Angst, was about a male and a female character in a weird kind of relationship!
So now I wanted to make another animation, also dealing with the relationship between two odd characters!
I wanted it to be funny, and reflect some aspects of modern human egocentric behaviour!
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
From my first ideas to the finished animation, it took a little more than 2 years!
I worked on it during my spare time in the evenings, and on my vacations!
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Longing and Egocentrism
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Well, there are always issues working with 3d software!
Sometimes you discover better solutions, late in the process,
solutions that could have saved a lot of work and time!
One thing I had to spend some time on in this project,
was to find a way to get the mouth sync to work, without spending too much time!
I finally found a software that could help me with that quite a bit!
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
I felt very happy, and that they pin pointed some things that I had in mind making the film!
To actually see the audience talking and reacting to my film, gives something more than a text review!
Quite a lot of comments were about the characters grotesqueness and detailed blemishes, which was fun!
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
When computers started to become available to more people, back in the 90's or so,
I became curious about how to use the them making animations!
As soon as I got my first computer I began to create digitally drawn frames.
I had to wait quite a lot of years though before it was possible to do what I wanted!
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
It must be some animated film, like Pixar's Up!
I saw it quite a lot of times to amuse my two children...and myself!
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
Well, I think your festival concept with video feedback is unique and great!
It´s hard to come up with something else... Maybe you could complement the feedback audience with someone who is/was active in the film industry...well I don´t know!
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
It's been great! It´s easy to get an overview of your project and the festivals!
10. What is your favorite meal?
Vegetables asian style!
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I haven't started to plan for a new film yet, but ideas will surely come up!
Maybe I'll create a computer game...
