Get to know the filmmaker:

1. What motivated you to make this film?
One time, my hair got cut, but you know what my hair didn't get? Compliments! And the insecure side of me got a little mad. I thought to myself, "I feel powerless." But then some self awareness kicked in and I thought that reaction was hilarious. The idea of a character who attaches power to validation was really exciting to me. I wanted to make a film that captured the powerlessness one feels in not being validated.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
I came up with the idea itself three days prior to filming, and presented the film for my class a week later after I filmed. I didn't take it anywhere because I had a copyrighted song in the original cut. This was in fall of 2018. With college over, I revisited it, did some editing and commissioned a song to play over the credits. So basically: pre-production took about four and a half days, production took about four and a half hours, and post-production took about four and a half years. :)

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Fun and simple.

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
I forgot to slate during the shoot so I spent an all-nighter syncing the audio together.

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
I was really flustered. I'm always happy to see people connected with my work!

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I've always wanted to tell stories; I realized that film to be the medium I wanted to use to tell stories when I was eleven years old.

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
It's probably a tie between Hausu (1977) and Death Race 2000 (1975).

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
Especially with the festival being online, I would love for there to be more opportunities to network with fellow filmmakers who submitted!

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
It is really intuitive! The perfect place for me to manage my films and get them seen.

10. What is your favorite meal?
I've been super fond of crepes lately.

11. What is next for you? A new film?
I have a couple films I'm working on! My thesis film, Sinfonia Eroica, is in post-production, I am currently working on an animated short. In the meantime I've been planning my next short and drafting a feature script.
