SHIFT BREAK, 3min., USA, Drama
Directed by Jake Gutwillig
During a frustrating and overwhelming day at work, Haley decides to take a break outside
Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
I really wanted to work with Hannah, who is a great performer and friend, and find a way to tell a story that's honest, and relatable, but without any dialogue. Just trying to explore and find ways to tell a story just using story and performance beats, as well as relying on a awesome performance to convey the main emotion.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
Worked on the script for around three weeks, while rehearsing it with Hannah. The longest part was finding the right location and once I locked that down, we picked a good Saturday and shot the short in 2 and a half hours.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Shift Break
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Finding a good location to have the space to film, but also with the right feel.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
It's great to get the feedback
6. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Brazil
7. What is next for you? A new film?
I have a few feature scripts written, and I hope to make those or get those made soon. In the meantime, making more shorts and collaborating with great artists.
