SALAD, ORANGES AND FLOWERS, 10min,. France, Experimental
Directed by Luying GU
Li Yu is writing a novel based on her free-range cat. However, the image of "Catwoman" began to intrude into her life frequently, and even confused with her close friend in real life, forcing her to face the emotions she had buried for many years...
Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
When I was back to my hometown for the Chinese New Year, there was a cat downstairs who kept staring at me, and later I found out that she was pregnant. This image left a deep impression in my mind. At the same time, the typical situation of prompting marriages and births in East Asian families also occurs intensively during the Chinese New Year. For me, a member of the sexual minority group, coming out to my family is still not an easy thing. So I got the inspiration to write a feature film script, this short film is an experiment of feature films.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
It took me about half a year. Because it happened to be during the closure of the city, there was a lot of creative time.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Truthful/subjective
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
How to extract a scene from a feature film script.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
I was very timid. But I appreciate everyone's sincerity!
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
Ever since I started learning animation, I wanted to shoot by myself. But at that time, making a movie was still quite difficult for me to imagine.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Summer Palace by LOU Ye.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
It would be nice if it could be linked to the film market.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Very convenient, but it always goes into the spam mailbox.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Shanghai Style Borscht.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I hope to make a feature film of "Salad, Oranges and Flowers", and I am also writing a new script. At the same time, I am an actress, I hope to continue to act as well.
