Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
- Music is a huge influence for me when it comes to writing and making films, and all of my work has horror elements or dark tones to them. Moshpit was a combination of my love for music and scary stuffs. I find that a lot of my ideas write themselves in a way, once I capture the true identity of an idea the rest of it follows naturally. I had spent the last year prior heavily studying filmmaking and the horror genre, and Moshpit was just the right project to show what I learned.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
- 5 months! We took our time with Post-Production so as to not rush or force its completion, we wanted to make sure everything felt right!
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
- "that's metal".
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
- We actually shot the whole film in one day. We only had access to the location for a single day so getting all of our shots done proved a bit difficult but we pulled it off!
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
- I was very pleased that everyone seemed to understand the film. It can be worrisome when trying out new and different techniques to tell your story, and the perspective from the filmmaker is never the same as the audience. All in all I was very excited to hear and see their reactions!
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
- I always knew that I needed to follow a creative career path to find fulfillment with work. I started as an editor because I fell in love with constructing compositions, and literally building the story as it should be told. It wasn't until I watched Hereditary by Ari Aster that I knew I wanted to work in the Horror genre. That film absolutely blew my mind and gave me many ideas to start writing myself. Hereditary was certainly a pivotal experience for my career.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
- It's hard to narrow it down to just one, but I will assume it's a Pixar film. Probably either A Bugs Life or Toy Story. I grew up watching Pixar movies and they are still some of my favourite films to this day.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
- I love the audience feedback videos and interviews at your festival, I think that other festivals should follow suit as I feel like we often don't get to hear feedback like this from festivals. I would also implement IMDb awards, as well as comments/ratings!
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
- Great! FilmFreeway has always been easy to use.
10. What is your favorite meal?
- Spaghetti Bolognese.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
- I am in pre-production for a new short film, and I also have a couple of features on my horizon. :)
