MANIFESTATION, 17min., Denmark
Directed by Danny Germansen
"A mentally ill person feels neglected by society and takes revenge."
Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
- The film is an inspiration from my own life with a disability and suffering from mental health problems. The motivation is to try to inform and bring awareness about people with deceases living an isolated life outside society and what issues that occur in those peoples life that make them end up, lonely, isolated and outcasted from society. But also show what kind of emotionalle and mental destress that can occure in those peoples lifes.
And also show how society treats and outcasts those who a different and stand out of the crowed or the norm. I based all this on my own experience, but was told by people who is health personal and work with and try to help those people. That my film shows exactly how those people feel and live. I show the problem exactly how it is. And they say that those people do not show up in public spaces and therefore many people do not know that there are people living like this, that those people exists. Hopefully my film will help enlighten some of those issues.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
- The film was a re-worked of my first amateur short film made in 1999. I wanted to make it again because I could write it better and produce it more professionel then in 2019. I guess the writing of the film has been going on most of my life since then. But it toke a year to write the final script and produce the film and starting to release it to festivals.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Progressive, enlightenment.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
- Getting the blood washed of the street, so it afterwards did not look like an accident or murder happen!
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
- It was, Wow! People actual understood the message of the film perfectly and something that I was specially found of, was that the language and tools used in the film to tell the story and feelings of the lead character, was implemented in way that the audience understood and felt the intensity of the lead characters situation, it gives me hope about using this film as enlightenment on health issues, and people living on isolation.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
- At an early age I fell in love with fims, since I could’t go out and play ball or climb tress as my friends, because of my disability. I sad at watched and experienced a big world thru film. But when I was 21 I decided to start studying film production and film history and got in to European Film College. From there on I started to do my first films.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
- No doubt Star Wars: A New Hope, since I was a kid.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
- Have no idea at the moment?
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
- Very happy about FilmFreeway It has a lot of features to promote your film and make it look good and its a very easy way to submit to festivals. What a great idea to do a website like that.
10. What is your favorite meal?
11. What is next for you? A new film?
- I was in preproduction with a film when covid-19 hit and the whole world was in lockdown. I had to cancel. Hopefully it will be possible to resume the film in the near future. At the moment I’m busy making music with my band The Radical Beat Underground and preparing to do music videos with the band also.
