Get to know the filmmaker:

1. What motivated you to make this film?
I had just gotten fired from my food runner job, and I realized I didn't want to run food anymore so I wrote the scariest movie I could with the budget my savings would allow. I think it was mostly scared of becoming irrelevant.
As for the horror aspect, it really stemmed just from experience hiking and camping, mixed with the balance of work life and mental stability. I noticed I was doing too much career work and not enough time tending to my relationship with friends and family and kind of expressed that through writing.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
I've been trying to figure it out exactly, about five and a half months. But of course I had some off weeks and just a lot of me time in between production stages. If you were to count the time I actively spent, I'd say about 28 full days.

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Unexpected, Uncensored.

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Translating it from my brain to the camera. It's easy to say what you want your shots to look like but through a camera everything looks different. In my head I had a vision of what it would look like on my TV and just tried as much as possible to do that... still didn't quite get it though but I'm honestly pretty happy with the final result.

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
I was honestly shocked that people were talking about my movie the way I talked about movies in film school. Then I was very happy that the audience had a good time because all in all the film is meant to be an experience, and the fact that people got the chance to experience location 4 really humbled me beyond what words can describe.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
As far back as I can remember. I used to make little home movies with my siblings and write scripts in Microsoft Word and record them for fun. I actually went to school for Economics and Computer Science but I had one professor in "Political Cinema" that really helped change my mind.

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
The Dark Knight. I feel that it's a perfect movie and no matter how many times I watch, I learn something. I also think the duality between the hero and villain is pretty much as perfectly balanced as you can get.

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
This is the best one I've been a part of so far. I think you all did an amazing job of making it feel personal and professional. This interview has been the hardest part of the process for sure, but honestly am so glad I can be a part of all this. That being said it's my first year so I don't know just really happy my short's being watched.

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
I really enjoy it, it feels like the college application process all over again to be honest (instead of a college app I'm submitting my little art project). But in all seriousness, it's been super easy and am very grateful a platform like that exists because without it I'd be super lost applying to all these festivals.

10. What is your favorite meal?
A: Pepperoni Pizza and Birch Beer (or Root Beer) from DeLorenzo's in Robbinsville, NJ.

11. What is next for you? A new film?
A: Yeah, I'm writing another film right now and planning on directing it but this time I'm gonna stay behind the camera for sure. I don't think it's possible for my brain to just accept doing nothing so I feel like I've always been writing and I'll always be writing until I've written enough to get behind the camera. Until then, just writing.
