JOINTS, 12min., USA, Horror/Comedy
Directed by Hadrian Lynn
Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
I was and still am obsessed with the zombie genre, and have always wanted to do a zombie film. When the opportunity rose to make a 10-15 minute short film, I gladly took it and created this film! Other than my love of zombie movies, some other sources and motivated/inspired me were the movie 12 Angry Men and my own personal life.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you
to make this film?
It took me around 5-6 months to complete this project, with 90% of the time dedicated to pre-production.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Zombie, High.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
The biggest obstacle I faced was definitely the editing process. Because Joints was my first official experience with filmmaking, there were a lot of things that I could have done a lot better, one of them being the editing process. The entire process had to be done in less than a week because of issues of not finding any editors, and as a result of this, the final project didn't turn out exactly as I had imagined. I am being very nit-picky though, it's all a learning process and I am still extremely happy with how my film turned out!
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking
about your film in the feedback video?
It was definitely a sense of euphoria, watching people compliment and comment on something my team and I had worked so extremely hard on. I had a smile on my face the entire time, and it made me very proud of myself and what I had accomplished. I am definitely striving to feel this feeling again!
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I realized my love of filmmaking quite late actually, around the summer of 2022 after I had just finished my Sophomore year. I attended a film camp in New York called the New York Film Academy, and there my passion was found. I had always been interested in the entertainment industry, but NYFA helped me narrow down and pinpoint exactly what part of the entertainment industry I was interested in.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
My favorite and most watched films are probably the Avatar franchise by James Cameron. There are so many reasons why I absolutely love the world of Pandora, I really cannot fit everything into this response.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other
festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking
career?
I am already very satisfied with my experiences at festivals, but if I had to nitpick, online viewing could be worked on a little bit more to make those who cannot attend the physical festival enjoy ad much of the event as possible.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your
experiences been working on the festival platform site?
It has been very positive, no complaints here!
10. What is your favorite meal?
That is a very hard question, but it has to be any kind of noodle dish.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I have a few projects I am working on right now, two new films that I'll write and direct in and another one where I will be a crew in. I'm also working on a few video projects, as well as some other projects that's still in the air!
