FISHING FOR LITTER, 26min., Greece
Directed by Sotiris Danezis
Four experienced fishermen set sail at dawn from the ports of Kavala, Samos, Chios, and Lesvos in the Aegean Sea. They have been behind the wheel of a trawler since they were kids and have noticed significant changes in the last few years. Their nets bring to the surface a disturbing truth about the plastic pollution hidden on the seabed. Forty captains participate in the "Fishing for Litter" program of the "Athanassios C. Laskaridis" Charitable Foundation, which aims to support scientific research, raise awareness in the fishing industry, and promote changes in waste management practices.
