CRISIS, 6min,. USA
Directed by Patrick Wei
Set against the backdrop of a drought-stricken New York City, this gripping short film delves into the harsh realities faced by its residents as the government imposes a stringent water rationing measure, limiting each individual to just 1 gallon and 3 ounces of water daily. As tensions rise and survival instincts kick in, "Crisis" paints a harrowing picture of the potential consequences of our environmental actions and the lengths to which people might go when faced with the direst of necessities. 1

Get to know producer Kyle Joshua Jacobs:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
The driving force behind this film was the realization of a widespread lack of awareness regarding sustainability. Many individuals tend to view sustainability solely through an environmental lens, overlooking its profound social dimensions. Sustainability is inherently intertwined with social behavior, and failing to grasp this concept could lead to potential crises.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you
to make this film?
From start to finish this project took 3 months. I was in my final semester at Columbia and had to balance finals and getting everything together for this project.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Insightful and Warning.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Honestly I enjoyed the whole process, but the most challenging part was figuring out what to take out for the Final Cut.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking
about your film in the feedback video?
I loved when everyone was reacting to the price to the food prices.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
In all honesty, I've harbored a deep desire to become a filmmaker for as long as I can remember. However, I never saw a clear path to pursue this dream. Growing up was tough, and the only escape I found was through movies. Those two hours in the theater felt like my own personal slice of Heaven . I became so engrossed in the stories that I often felt like I was part of the film itself
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
The Matrix Trilogy
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other
festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking
career?
Direct Connection to Studios: Facilitate opportunities for filmmakers to directly connect with representatives from film studios.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your
experiences been working on the festival platform site?
My experience working with the FilmFreeway platform for festival submissions has been quite positive. The platform offers a user-friendly interface that simplifies the submission process, making it easy to navigate and submit my film to various festivals.
10. What is your favorite meal?
My favorite dish would have to be a seafood boil bag, but when it comes to dining out, my top choice is Melbas in Harlem.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
My next steps involve developing a series called "I Don't Care," drawing inspiration from the anthology format of "Black Mirror." In each episode, "I Don't Care" will explore diverse genres, ranging from dystopian tales to speculative fiction, all the while tackling sustainability challenges and addressing the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
