MICRO-PLASTINATION, 6min,. USA
Directed by Aspen Nelson
Recovering from a wild night, a young woman pukes in her bathroom. Her illness is so severe that she doesn’t notice another presence entering the room. A hand mutilated by plastics grasps her hair but by the time she turns around, no one is there. While sleeping, the plastic creature returns crouched in the corner of the woman’s bedroom. She lunges on top of the woman and…they recognize each other. It’s her lover, suffering from a disease of plastics. The woman tries to remedy the illness with water, but learns that the water is actually contaminated. It’s filled with microplastics! Hopeless, she drinks the water to join her lover in death. Later, the disease takes hold of the woman and when it seems like they’ve both taken their last breath, the woman painfully removes a piece of plastic from her skin. She gets up and removes more. She’s going to try to live. The task seems impossible, but she’s determined.
